According to sources within the display manufacturing industry, Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of these advanced panels, supported by its recent investment in next-generation OLED production lines.
The panels will be produced using Gen 8.6 substrates, which are more suitable for larger screens such as those used in laptops and monitors. These displays will also use oxide TFT technology, offering greater energy efficiency, improved cost management, and better scalability.
If Apple transitions from mini-LED to OLED for the MacBook Pro, users can expect brighter screens, deeper blacks with higher contrast, longer battery life, and slimmer overall designs. The change in display technology may also coincide with the first significant MacBook Pro redesign since 2021, with speculation suggesting that Apple could replace the current notch with either a pill-shaped or punch-hole front-facing camera.
Initial industry reports indicated that OLED displays would come first to high-end MacBook Pros before being introduced to the MacBook Air range, with a targeted release year of 2026.
