lenovo v155 Review

When it comes to budget laptops, Lenovo is a brand that offers a perfect balance between affordability and productivity. Whether you need a student laptop or a premium laptop for office, it offers everything. The best thing is that consumers can get great deals depending on their computing needs and budget. Lenovo V155 offers the same deal to the users accompanying some great specs and features.

Lenovo V155 is a low budget business laptop that is more like a notebook. The device has everything that you would want in a laptop as a professional. It houses an AMD processor, SSD storage, a large display and on-board graphics. The company claims that this is a laptop that can handle your everyday business tasks and let you enjoy casual gaming.

We decided to evaluate its overall performance and functionality to test this claim. We have reviewed its casing, specs sheet, display, keyboard functionality and performance to assess its strengths and weakness.

Specs sheet

Processor: MD Ryzen 5-3500U (Quad-Core) / 2.1GHz Max. Turbo Speed 3.7GHz

Display: 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Resolution

RAM: 8GB Storage: 256GB SSD

Graphics: On-Board Integrated

Operating System: Windows 10 Home

The specs on the V155 are standard and slightly on the higher end as compared to other business laptops of the same class. Let’s see how this business laptop handles itself in the real world.

Design

At this price, you must not expect a premium look from Lenovo V155. Its entire casing is made of plastic with a rough finish, but the craftsmanship is of a high quality. We didn’t find any sharp edges or uneven clearances on this budget laptop. The ventilation and speaker grills are on the bottom panel, whereas the V155 exhaust hot air towards the lid, away from its screen.

We found Lenovo V155 to be a bit heavy with a 22.9mm profile and a weight of around 4.85lbs (2.20kg). The hinges on this laptop is sturdy and you may find it hard to open the lid with one hand. We also found it to be prone to bending, except around the keyboard where the plastic yields a bit. Nevertheless, this is a good design for a plastic body laptop.

In addition, there is a physical shutter on top which ensures your data is safe from hackers. The bottom and top bezels of Lenovo V155 are a little thick but the side bezels are thin.

Display

Lenovo V155 features a large 15.6-inch wide diagonal display with FHD TN panel. Its screen resolution is1920 х 1080p with a screen ratio of 16:9. It offers a 0.18 х 0.18mm pitch and a pixel density of 142PPI. The screen becomes Retina at 24-inch distance while it delivers an average brightness of 200 nits.

This is a below-average display performance even for Lenovo standards. However, this is not bad for a business laptop if you need it for office tasks. You’ll get a decent display while browsing on the internet and working on office software.

Connectivity

Lenovo has gone with basic port selection, probably to cut the cost on this budget laptop. The V155 only has basic ports for connectivity and all of these are on the left side of the laptop. It houses two USB 3.0 ports, a Gigabit LAN, an HDMI output, a power connector and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Lenovo V155 doesn’t have a modern Type-C port for a fast data connection or a card reader slide. However, Lenovo has added an optical DVD drive along with Kensington lock on the right side.

Performance

For a business laptop, Lenovo V155 has a decent combination of hardware. It features Ryzen 5-3500U processor that runs on the Windows 10 Home OS and offers a base frequency of 2.1GHz. This quad-core CPU can deliver a maximum clock speed of 3.7GHz when needed. Then there is an 8GB memory paired with high-speed 256GB SSD storage to ensure smooth performance.

We tested Lenovo V155 for its performance by running usual office programs, such as office, excel and multiple Chrome tabs. The laptop offered good performance and didn’t display any stuttering or lags while performing tasks. We didn’t notice any delays while switching between apps and different files. Similarly, there were no holdbacks when we jump between different tabs during browsing.

We found its performance to be great in everyday office use and for editing simple media content. However, this is not a gaming laptop by all means, as it only comes with on-board graphics. You must not expect to play heavy games, such as PUBG and Fortnite with normal display. However, you can enjoy movies and casual gaming in your leisure time on this device.

Battery life

This is an area where Lenovo V155 is far behind its competitors. It features a 36Wh battery, which is relatively small for a large display laptop of such specs. However, the V155 uses its battery well and we were able to extract around five hours of battery life. Nevertheless, this is a below-average battery performance that puts the V155 in the lower middle of its class.

Verdict

Lenovo V155 is a mid-range business laptop that comes with an industrial-looking design. It has a small battery and features a dull display. On the bright side, the price is reasonable considering the specs. It has got the right specs and fits the bill at its price as a budget laptop. In a nutshell, this is a decent business laptop for those who will be working in the office and need a powerful laptop with a comfortable keyboard deck.
