HUAWEI MateBook X Pro Review

Huawei laptops are great for everyday computing and have earned a good name for office use scenarios. Especially, high-end models like Core i7 laptops are good at productivity and handling heavy software. The same is true about the MateBook X Pro, which Huawei introduced in 2018. The model is ranking higher in the best office laptops list since its release and features promising hardware.

Today, we are going to review the Huawei MateBook X Pro (2019), a true successor of the previous model. This is a more powerful laptop with the same lightweight, portable design that is worth your money. Huawei has done an amazing job in crafting it and there is more to this its versatile chassis design that meets the eye.

Modern Windows 10 laptops often lack the latest technology or lustrous design when it comes to affordability. But the MateBook X Pro has got everything from Core i7 processor to SSD storage and touchscreen display to dedicated GPU. In fact, it beats the MacBook and Surface Pro when it comes to specs-to-price ratio.

Now that you have has an insight on its specs, let’s delve ourselves into details.

Huawei MateBook X Pro: Design Review

The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2019) resembles its predecessor in terms of design and build. The material quality is the very same i.e. an aluminium unibody frame and comes in similar colours. You can get it in “Space Gray” or “Mystic Silver” colour shade as per your personal preference.

This is a 0.57 inches thin laptop that weighs around 2.93lbs (1.33kg). The only major change that we observed was the absence of the lotus flower logo on the back of its lid. Huawei chose to present its brand name on the lid which is written with the same hue.

Display Review and Evaluation

The MateBook X Pro (2019) is a 14-inch laptop that features a 13.9-inch display. The previous model had a dazzling screen, and fortunately, Huawei did not try to fix what was not broken. It is the same screen that we have seen on the 2018 model and still provides a better display than many other Core i7 laptops.

As we mentioned, it is the identical 13.9-inch display with 3K Low-Temperature polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) touchscreen. The display panel offers 450 nits with a 178-degree viewing angle and an aspect ratio of 3:2. You will get an amazing visual experience while working and watching movies on it.

Its QHD display panel with a resolution of 3000 x 2000p delivers crispy images. The only drawback of this display is that it does not put a good show in bright sunlight.

Huawei MateBook X Pro (2019): Keyboard Review

Another sensible decision that Huawei took was to not tangle with the keyboard. The brand loaded the same chiclet keyboard that its predecessor and other Windows 10 laptops have. This is a decent keyboard which surprisingly offers deep key travel, considering its thin design.

The same can be said about its trackpad which is a delight to use. This is a smooth tracking surface of appropriate size and responds well to commands. We experienced a strong palm rejection while we were testing its keypad which is great.

Ports selection on the MateBook X Pro (2019)

The MateBook X Pro (2019) offers aplenty of ports with minor up-gradation which are distributed on both sides. The left edge features a 3.5mm audio jack with two Type-C USB ports (one with full Thunderbolt 3 support). For those who are still carrying the past, there is a Type-A USB on the right edge.

Hardware & Performance

The MateBook series models are arguably the most powerful Huawei laptops for business users. This one offers a bit more and is ideal for professionals who need high-end specs on a lightweight laptop.

It comes armed with the Core i7-8565U processor which can offer a clock speed between 1.8GHz to 4.6GHz. Additionally, there is an 8GB fast memory and 512GB solid-state storage which further boosts its performance. Huawei has equipped it with the GeForce MX250 dedicated GPU which delivers crystal clear visuals, thanks to a 2GB GDDR5 VRAM.

We evaluated its performance by running Microsoft Office suite, designing software like Adobe pro and illustrator, and running games. We played PUBG with lower settings and did not experience any major glitches. Overall, the MateBook X Pro performed well during our review and lived up to the expectations.

Final Verdict

Huawei MateBook X Pro (2019) is an affordable pick from Core i7 laptops for professionals. For those who are looking for Huawei laptops, the MateBook X Pro can meet your needs. It has got an SSD with 8GB RAM and long-lasting battery life, while the ultra-slim design put it among the best Windows 10 laptops.
